About us

Where LA Meets Tokyo - A New Kind of Streetwear

Tokyobloom isn’t just a brand, it’s a conversation. Inspired by the vibrant street fashion of Tokyo and LA, we create Conversational Streetwear™. Bold, wearable statements designed to spark interactions and turn heads.

From the Super Genki™ collection to our Tokyo Remix series, every piece is made to reflect style, culture, and personality. Whether you’re repping clean minimalist vibes or loud, expressive energy, Tokyobloom is here to help you wear the story you want to tell.

What’s “Super Genki” Anyway?

If you’ve ever been to Japan, you’ve probably heard the word genki (元気). It’s used to describe energy, excitement, and good vibes. But when I moved to Tokyo in April 2024, I took it up a notch. When people asked me if I was genki, I’d reply: “Super Genki!”, and it always got a funny reaction. The phrase stuck, and so did the idea behind it: wearing confidence, positivity, and boldness.

That same Super Genki™ spirit runs through everything we do at Tokyobloom.

Made for the Bold. Designed for the Conversation.

Every piece in our collection is hand picked and designed with intention, from oversized streetwear to embroidered statement pieces. We keep it high-quality, made on demand, and focused on self-expression.

So, what’s your vibe?

Let’s make the world a little more expressive, more unique, and way more Super Genki. 🚀🔥

The road to discovery

Our journey began in 2018

Tokyobloom started as an idea, originally named Shibuya 13, during a three-year road trip across the U.S. and Canada. My wife, Hiroko-chan, and our French Bulldogs, Matsuhiro and Porco (my baby boys and the inspiration behind our LuvFrenchies collection), packed up everything, moved into an RV, and hit the road.

We made it to all 48 lower states, spent four months in Alaska and a ton of time in Western Canada, and even drove up to and camped at the Arctic Ocean, where we watched the sunrise, sunset, and northern lights…all within a few hours.

From the streets of LA, where I spent ten of my best years, to the rugged landscapes of Western Canada, every place left its mark and inspired me in some way.

Somewhere in that journey, the idea for my own streetwear brand started to take shape.

Tokyobloom is the result of that experience, a brand built on culture, travel, and conversation, woven into every piece.

The LA-Tokyo Connection

My love for LA and Tokyo culture started long before my three years on the road. In the early 2000s, I made a life-changing move from my hometown of Tacoma, Washington, to Redondo Beach, California (a decision that happened within two weeks) for work, not knowing anybody in the area.

Living in Redondo Beach (and spending my days around Hermosa Pier), I fell in love with the Southern California lifestyle…the surf, the energy, the freedom. But what I didn’t expect was how deeply I’d connect with Japanese culture here.

I met my future wife, along with many of our closest LA friends, most of whom had moved from Japan. Torrance was just minutes away, and little did I know that the Greater Los Angeles area has the largest Japanese-American community in the U.S. Over time, my worlds of LA street culture and Tokyo influence started blending in ways I never could have imagined.

This is where my passion for both LA and Tokyo street fashion was born…two places, two cultures, one vibe.

Simplicity in design and form

The Collaboration that kicked it off

From the beginning, simplicity has been at the core of Tokyobloom. Clean lines, minimalism, and thoughtful design aren’t just aesthetic choices, they’re a philosophy. Whether it’s the Raw Lines collection, the Figured Out series, or the everyday staples in our lineup, every piece is about letting the design speak for itself.

That philosophy took shape through a key collaboration. While living in Redondo Beach, I met John T. Cantu, an artist who, like me, had a deep appreciation for Japanese culture. We quickly became friends, bonding over our shared inspirations, and over time, that friendship turned into a creative partnership.

John’s distinctive line-based artwork became the foundation of Tokyobloom’s Raw Lines and Figured Out Brands, two collections that embrace the power of minimalism, form, and movement. Now, with both of us living in Tokyo, the connection between art, culture, and streetwear continues to influence Tokyobloom’s evolution.

My move To Tokyo, Japan

For years, I dreamed of moving to Japan, immersing myself in the culture that had inspired so much of my journey. In April 2024, I finally made it a reality, relocating from Portland, Oregon to Nishiazabu, Tokyo…a place that was right in the middle of it all and has been everything I imagined and more.

Even though I had visited Japan over 15 times before, it wasn’t until I actually lived here that I realized just how much English is woven into Japanese culture…not just in language, but in its unexpected and creative uses. That realization sparked something new.

This was when I officially launched Tokyo Remix, our brand that plays with the intersection of language, culture, and fashion. It was also the moment when I rebranded Shibuya 13 to Tokyobloom and took the leap to fully launch my entire streetwear line and eCommerce shop.

The journey that started on the road, blending LA and Tokyo influences, had finally come full circle…right here, in the heart of Tokyo, Japan.
